ÉRTÉKELÉS | AMANDA HOCKING: Ice Kissed (Kanin Chronicles 2.)

  Amanda Hocking: Ice Kissed

- book 2 -

Idézetek:

Vigyázat, némelyik spoileres!

Fresh snowflakes stung my face, so I closed my eyes and lowered my head and urged Bloom to run faster.

...

I tried to ignore it, the same way I had any time the pain had flared up over the last two days, and gripped Bloom’s reins tighter. Late last night, Ridley Dresden and I had arrived back home from our job in the Skojare capital of Storvatten.

...

Though we’d been released from our duties since the mission was declared complete, I would hardly call it over.

...

Fifteen years ago, Viktor had tried to overthrow the Kanin King Evert, and in the process, he’d killed Ridley’s father. Since that attempted coup, no one had seen or heard from him.

...

Thanks to my Skojare-esque appearance, I was used to being stared at in Doldastam—my blond hair and pale skin had always stood out in stark contrast to the tan skin and dark hair of the rest of the Kanin. But this was way beyond normal.

...

Since the King had officially declared war on Viktor Dålig, Konstantin Black, and all of their associates yesterday afternoon, the tracker school had been turned into an army training camp.

...

In times of war, the Rektor took on the role of the head officer overseeing the army. The head of the Högdragen, the Chancellor, and the King all ranked above him.

...

In trying to find a connection between Konstantin Black and Viktor Dålig, I decided to go to the most obvious place—family lineage.

..

My dad acting in the Chancellor’s absence was perhaps the most benign part of how Evert had become King, but now I realized it might hold extreme weight: it was the connection between Konstantin Black and Viktor Dålig.

...

Two days after Evert was crowned, Viktor Dålig had led a coup trying to overthrow Evert in an effort to get the “rightful” monarch—his daughter—on the throne.

...

He had to have seen my father swearing him in, and with Berit Abbott’s illness, it was easy to believe that my dad had helped the council decide that Evert should be crowned over Viktor’s daughter.

...

A lysa is something between shared dreaming and astral projection.

...

I didn’t know why Linnea had picked me to receive her lysa, but now that I had proof she was alive, I knew one thing for certain—I had to find her.

...

“Lake Isolera.” “Lake Isolera?” I asked. “You never told me about that.” “I’d nearly forgotten, and it feels like a half-remembered dream.” She shook her head. “It was a story we’d heard from our childhood. A magical place that an ancient powerful Queen had a put spell on, so it would always be warm and private. An oasis to swim in when the harsh Canadian winters bore down on us.

...

“You don’t have more accurate directions than that?” I asked hopefully. She raised an eyebrow at me. “For a magical place that probably doesn’t really exist? No, I’m sorry, I don’t. It’s like asking for specific directions to Narnia.” “You just go through the wardrobe to get to Narnia. That’s pretty specific.”

...

To Ridley’s credit, he slept through it—his head lolled to one side, bouncing along with the Land Rover as it navigated the worsening terrain of the back roads. It was over twenty hours into our journey to the mythical and possibly nonexistent Lake Isolera, which had begun with an awkward train ride during which we both struggled to fill the silence by inspecting maps of Ontario.

...

The ground felt soft beneath me, so I assumed I was lying on the grass, safely out of the dark clutches of drowning. He exhaled roughly. “You scared the crap out of me, Bryn.” “Sorry.” I opened my eyes to see Ridley and the missing Queen Linnea bent over me. “Hey, I found her.”

...

It seemed to be something odd about Mikko and the guards in Storvatten. They had blocked our attempts at gathering information and doing a proper investigation, not to mention that Mikko had shifted from indifferent about his wife’s disappearance to devastated rather quickly.

...

“It’s settled then,” King Evert declared, probably before either Mina or Linnea suggested that anyone else tag along. “Bryn Aven and Kasper Abbott will accompany Queen Linnea back to Storvatten.”

...

It was much warmer in Storvatten than it had been in Doldastam,

...

These are our friends from the Kanin, Bryn Aven and Kasper Abbott.”

...

King Rune was Mikko and Kennet’s father, who had apparently decided to tie the purse strings much tighter than they needed to be.

...

He slowly got up, still holding the dagger, so I repeated, “Drop it.” “Cyrano!” Mikko’s voice boomed from somewhere behind me. “Do as she says!” “I’d like her to make me,” Cyrano snarled, and then he lunged at me.

...

They plan to kill you because you’re getting too close!” “Too close to what?” I asked, and by now the sky was nearly black. “How do you know?” “Viktor Dålig gave the order. He wants anyone in his way dead.”

...

It did seem a little like a moot point, with the Skojare King locked up and their kingdom in a panic. Not to mention that Bayle Lundeen still had more power than he should—

...

Once Bayle was gone and the trial was over, it would be good for the Skojare if they could get a fresh start with a properly functioning security system in place.

...

It’d been nearly a month since I first met Linus in Chicago, when I was tracking him and first ran into Konstantin Black, which set off this whole thing.

...

Prince Kennet seemed to be having some kind of weird party with Mina and Evert.

...

“Oh yes, Prince Kennet came all the way here from Storvatten to thank us personally for our help in sorting out their troubles,” Mina explained, and as she spoke, her hand went absently to her lavish necklace. “He wanted to extend his gratitude and strengthen the friendship between our tribes.”

...

With everything going on—Storvatten preparing for war, Viktor and Konstantin, not to mention things with Ridley, and Kennet’s bizarre invitation last night, and Tilda’s wedding, which was a good thing but still out of the ordinary—my life had been completely devoid of routine.

...

realized I had my own forbidden romance that I needed to deal with, and before I could really head back to reality, I needed to talk to Ridley.

...

“We would both lose our jobs, and as much as I do care about you, I’m not willing to do what my parents did. My dad sacrificed a lot, but my mom gave up everything.

...

Once we catch Viktor, I want to give us a real shot.” He took my hands in his.

...

I looked over at Kasper. “Kennet did it all, didn’t he?” “I don’t know if we can prove it, but yes. I think he did.”

...

“You both attempted to commit treason.” “Treason?” I shouted. “My Queen, there has been a terrible misunderstanding,” Kasper said, hurrying to defend himself.

...

“How bad is it?” “I’m not sure if you’re asking about your eye or the situation,” he said.

...

just got home from work, and the head of the Högdragen called to tell me that you’d been arrested for treason, escaped from prison, and then murdered Kasper Abbott and the Skojare Prince before going on the run again.”

...

“Need any company?” the guy next to me asked. “No, I’m good,” I said firmly, and tilted my stool away from him a bit. “A girl alone like you, I really think you could use a friend,” he persisted, and it didn’t look like he’d get the hint without more force. “Listen—” I turned to him, preparing to tell him off—but when I saw I was face-to-face with Konstantin Black, the argument died on my lips.

...

“So, what do you say, white rabbit?” Konstantin asked. “Friends?”
