Értékelés: Naomi Williams: The Eyewitness

Áprilisban eltekintettem kicsit a fantasytól és a thriller felé vettem az irányt. Naomi Williamstől olvastam a The Eyewitness-t. Külön köszönet a Headline Kiadónak a felajánlásért. Korábban olvastam hasonlót a NetGalley oldaláról, ami tetszett is, ezért is jött a felkeresés. 

Mivel jómagam is Londonban élek, ahol ez a történet is játszódott, így nagyon könnyen el tudtam képzelni, hogy merre jártak a könyv szereplői. Sőt, többször is rákerestem a Google Maps-en! Főszereplőnk Beth, szemész. Egyik alkalommal a kollégája, Max, átadja neki a különös szembetegséggel élő páciens, Rachel ügyét, hogy vizsgálja meg. Ahogy egyre haladunk a történettel, úgy keveredik Beth egyre jobban a dolgok sűrűjébe.

A lassú kezdet után felgyorsulnak az események, és már nem tudtam, melyik karakterben lehet bízni, mert egy ponton már mindenki gyanússá vált. Nagyon hátborzongató volt, igazi thriller csemege.  Napközben is ezen rágódtam, amikor nem tudtam folytatni a könyvet. Amikor már majdnem elhittem, hogy ki is a rossz fiú, akkor még jött pár meglepő fordulat, amire nem igazán számítottam! Onnan lehet tudni, hogy jó egy könyv, hogy napokkal a befejezése után is gondol rá az ember.

In April, I took a break from fantasy and turned to thrillers. I read The Eyewitness by Naomi Williams. Special thanks to Headline Publishers and NetGalley for the offer. 

Since I live in London, where this story takes place, I could easily imagine where the characters in the book went. In fact, I searched for it on Google Maps several times! The main character is Beth, an ophthalmologist. On one occasion, her colleague, Max, gives her the case of a patient with a strange eye condition, Rachel, to examine. As the story progresses, Beth gets more and more involved with the case and gets more personal than it should...

After a slow start, events sped up, and I no longer knew which character to trust, because at one point, everyone became suspicious. It was very creepy, a real thriller treat. I was thinking about this during the day, when I had to work and couldn't continue the book. Just when I was almost convinced who the bad guy was, there were a few surprising twists that I didn't really expect! 

You can tell if a book is good by the fact that you'll still think about it days after you finish it.
